Climate change in the media: a difficult story

This live presentation from Dr Joe Smith (Senior Lecturer in Environment, Geography) introduces a current AHRC funded research project entitled   Earth in Vision - BBC coverage of environmental change 1960-2010.  Working with  a substantial body of environment related BBC broadcast content from the late 1950s to the present, the project explores both the history and politics of environmental change issues and the user needs of ‘digital citizens’ as such broadcast archives are released for public use.

Dr Joe Smith is Senior Lecturer in Environment in the Department of Geography. His work focuses on promoting better understanding of - and action on - global environmental change issues. This breaks down into three linked areas of research and commentary: public engagement and the media, the politics of consumption, and contemporary environmental history. His research practice across these areas tends to be collaborative, interdisciplinary and experimental, with the aim of combining thinking and writing about these issues with direct engagement and impact.
