Q&A SST for new students

In the first of two question and answer sessions we are joined by Katy Smith, and Advisor for the OU, and Caroline Kelly from the Psychology student support team. This session is particularly aimed at students who are new, but there is bound to be advice to those who are already studying! Carole is a Student Services Manager – Support and Guidance in the Psychology and Counselling Student Support Team based in the Cambridge Regional Centre.

Following Open University study and the completion of a BA in Humanities and Social Studies I joined the University in 1996 .During the 19 years I have worked for the University I have covered many roles, all of which have been student focussed.

I have recently completed an Advice and Guidance qualification and fully appreciate the challenges students face in studying whilst working full time and running a home.

Caroline is Academic Lead for the Psychology & Counselling Student Support Team, also a regional academic in the South East region and she is a tutor on the level one introductory Psychology module, DE100. Her academic background is in Social Psychology and she is particularly interested in group processes and intergroup conflict.

Katy Smith

Katy Smith

Katy is a Senior Faculty Manager. She worked within a number of industries including aerospace, utilities and construction, looking at the matters of performance, and inter and intra-organisational relations such as team working, cultural issues and supply chain relations in complex organisations.

She joined the Open University in 2005 as a Research Fellow within the OUBS, on an EPSRC funded project about advancing the integration of the supply chain in construction and the challenges for commercial practice. I joined the Social Sciences Faculty in 2010.
