Sue joined the OU in 1992 as a tutor and became a full time member of the Sociology Department and Staff Tutor in 2000. She tutors on The Uses of Social Science as well as working on different aspects of module presentation and production. Currently she is the Faculty’s Open Media Fellow supporting the development of our open educational resources: not just television programmes such as this week’s Don’t Panic on global poverty broadcast on BBC2, and our successful series ‘The Met’ also with the BBC, but also the growing wealth of OU resources available on OpenLearn. She has published on the sociology of education and applied thisknowledge as a contributor to a number of national projects on the teaching of social science. Her central academic concern is with the ways in which social structures and cultural beliefs together enable societies, groups and individuals to exist together and find collective and individual meaning.
